SW PGA Foundation's PGA HOPE Program Receives Support from Empower Coalition

Empower Coalition, a Tucson-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2016, is dedicated to enhancing the local community by providing resources to charitable organizations, enabling them to better fulfill their missions.

According to Jim Storey, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Empower Coalition, their core mission is to support Veterans and military families.

Following their successful February “Tucson Beefsteak” fundraiser during the Tucson Gem Show, LaPaloma Country Club recently hosted another impactful event. Several organizations, including Southwest PGA Foundation, gathered to receive significant support from Empower’s donors and supporters.

Empower Coalition Contributes Support to Multiple Organizations

Michael Haywood, CEO of the Southwest PGA Foundation, shared his gratitude, stating that the Foundation’s PGA HOPE program is a proud recipient for 2025. He expressed that they are deeply honored to receive Empower’s support alongside influential leaders in Southern Arizona, and that these funds will directly benefit both new and existing programs serving Veterans in the region.

Currently, 17 of the Southwest PGA’s 60 PGA HOPE programs are located in Southern Arizona. Empower’s contribution will enable this number to increase to nearly 20 in 2025. PGA HOPE is the signature program for military Veterans and Active Duty personnel, led by PGA and LPGA professionals. This six-week program, meeting once a week for 1.5 hours, offers a truly transformative experience for Veterans at all stages of their post-military life.

The Foundation’s guiding principle, “Because no Journey should be taken alone,” resonates deeply with the military experience and continues to be relevant after service. For many, PGA HOPE has been life-saving. As United States Army Veteran Ron Cervini shared, “Before PGA HOPE most of my daily value had diminished. It’s a personal journey that has taken me from one end of the spectrum to the next. The community built from PGA HOPE has, honestly, saved my life.”

Empower Coalition member Brian Prouty emphasized their belief in PGA HOPE’s mission, stating, “We (Empower) believe in the mission of PGA HOPE. We have seen firsthand their impact and how through the game of golf the next step in Veteran rehabilitation is changing lives in Southern Arizona. We are excited to partner with such an amazing organization.”

The PGA HOPE program utilizes pre- and post-program surveys, revealing remarkable stories and feedback that demonstrate the program’s quantifiable impact on participating Veterans. Participants are also encouraged to extend their involvement through a post-HOPE program called Op36 Wingman, which allows them to continue learning while inviting a “Wingman” to join them for another six-week session.

Thanks to EMPOWER’s support, the Southwest PGA Foundation is empowered to further its work with Veterans in Southern Arizona.
